Corticosteroids help relieve inflammation by helping the body make proteins that reduce the inflammatory chemical messengers and reduce pain, swelling and redness.
2.5 mg per 10 lbs (4.5 kg) body weight per day is divided doses six to ten hours apart.
Dosages should be restricted to the lowest level necessary to control clinical signs. If no therapeutic response is noted in seven days, the diagnosis should be redetermined.
