Changes in weather, allergies, dry and dusty conditions, and infection can be a catalyst for respiratory tract problems. Wind Aid is a blend of natural aromatic oils and potassium iodide (expectorant). It is designed to offer temporary relief of bronchial congestion, allergies, wind problems, and minor throat irritation. Wind Aid works as an expectorant, which allows for a more open-air passage and freer breathing. It is glycerin-based, which helps provide a soothing coating in the irritated throat surfaces.

For optimum results, one single-dose syringe orally once a day two to three days prior to exercise or race.

Should I give Wind Aid Paste only before a ride or show, or start it a few days beforehand?
For optimum support, Hawthorne recommends giving one single-dose syringe orally once daily for 2–3 days before exercise or competition. When more immediate support is desired, the manufacturer also directs giving one syringe at least two hours before exercise. This makes the paste convenient for horses needing targeted respiratory support around demanding work or events.

Is Wind Aid Paste a good option for a horse that only has breathing trouble during dusty shows or seasonal changes?
It may be particularly useful during periods when environmental conditions challenge normal respiratory comfort. Hawthorne specifically identifies weather changes, seasonal allergens, and dry or confined environments as situations that can contribute to respiratory concerns. The paste format allows owners to provide short-term support around travel, competition, dusty arenas, or other predictable situations.

Can I give Wind Aid Paste to a horse that is currently receiving prescription medication?
Use caution when combining Wind Aid with other products. Current labeling specifically states not to combine it with prescription medication. It also advises against use in pregnant or lactating horses, young animals, and horses with certain gastrointestinal, kidney, or liver conditions. If your horse receives medication, consult your veterinarian before adding Wind Aid.

Is the single-dose Wind Aid Paste more convenient than the liquid for shows and travel?
Yes. Each Wind Aid Paste syringe contains a single oral serving, eliminating the need to carry a bottle and separate dosing syringe. This can make it particularly convenient for a trailer or show trunk when respiratory support is needed around travel or competition. The entire single-dose syringe is used for the manufacturer’s standard paste serving.

Can I leave Wind Aid Paste in my horse trailer during show season?
Only if the trailer remains within the recommended temperature range. Current labeling directs storing Wind Aid Paste at 59–86°F (15–30°C). A grooming or show trunk can be convenient for travel, but avoid prolonged storage in trailers or vehicles that become excessively hot or cold, particularly during summer or winter competition seasons.
