Cimetidine Tablets

Cimetidine Tablets (Generic Tagamet) from Animal Health is a anti-ulcer medication that encourages the stomach to stop the production of acid.

Cimetidine is also sometimes prescribed as a preventative to be used with anti-inflammatory drugs, corticosteroids and any other prescription medication known to cause gastric ulcers.

Cimetidine has also been used to treat melanomas (skin cancer) in horses both alone, and in conjunction with immunotherapy or surgery. Treatment times vary, but generally lasts up to 3 months.

Prescription Drug Policy:

Prescriptions CAN NOT be shipped to North Carolina, Hawaii or Alaska at this time.

Prescription drugs can only be shipped upon receipt of an original prescription from a licensed veterinarian. FarmVet can accept an original prescription in one of the following ways:
 

• The original prescription may be mailed to:

• A licensed veterinarian may fax the Rx to 615-370-8502.
  The fax must originate from the veterinarian's office.
• A licensed veterinarian can call & leave a voicemail with your prescription information with our pharmacy at 615-277-5602.

Prescriptions are non-refundable. Prescriptions are refillable if indicated by your vet, for up to one year from the original date. At the end of one year, prescriptions must be updated. Written prescriptions must include the veterinarian's license number, telephone number, and address. Federal law restricts the use of Rx drugs to use by, or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.

Side effects are rare, but Cimetidine should be used with caution for horses with decreased liver or kidney function. If your horse experiences difficulty breathing or increased heart rhythm discontinue use and contact your veterinarian immediately.
