FAQ

Is Ulcergard for prevention or treatment?

Ulcergard is generally used for the prevention of gastric ulcers. If you suspect your horse already has ulcers, your vet may recommend a different plan or product for treatment.

When should I give Ulcergard?

Many owners give Ulcergard before stressful events (like hauling or competitions) or during periods when a horse is more prone to stomach upset.

How long does Ulcergard take to work?

Every horse is different, but Ulcergard is designed to start working as it reduces acid production. For best results, use it as directed and consistently.

How do I give Ulcergard to my horse?

Ulcergard is an oral paste given by syringe. It’s typically administered by placing the paste on the back of the tongue and ensuring your horse swallows.

Should Ulcergard be given with food?

Follow the product label and your veterinarian’s instructions. Some owners give it before feeding, but your vet may recommend what’s best for your horse’s routine.

Can Ulcergard be used for travel or showing?

Yes—Ulcergard is commonly used for travel, showing, stall rest, and training changes, when stress may increase ulcer risk.

Can I use Ulcergard with other supplements or medications?

Sometimes, yes—but it’s best to check with your veterinarian, especially if your horse is taking other medications or you’re using additional ulcer or digestive supplements.

What are common signs my horse may have gastric ulcers?

Some common signs include poor appetite, weight loss, girthiness, attitude changes, mild colic, and reduced performance. Always consult a veterinarian for diagnosis.

Is Ulcergard safe for daily use?

Ulcergard is widely used for prevention. Your veterinarian can help determine the right schedule and duration for your horse’s needs.

What’s the difference between Ulcergard and Gastrogard?

Both contain omeprazole, but they are typically used for different purposes (prevention vs. treatment). Your vet can recommend the right option based on symptoms and risk level.

How should Ulcergard be stored?

Store Ulcergard at room temperature and keep it out of direct sunlight. Always check the packaging for storage instructions.
